Route 79-Davol Street
Shadley Associates is currently working with the City of Fall River and MassDOT as a subconsultant to HNTB Corporation on Route 79-Davol Street Corridor Improvements. The project connects Route 79 with the mile-long Davol Street running along the Taunton River, allowing for the creation of 19 acres of developable parcels and nine acres of open space. This project transforms a limited-access divided highway into an urban boulevard with over two miles of shared use paths. The design incorporates four cross street connections between neighborhoods and the Taunton River shoreline, providing improved amenities for bicyclists, motorists, and pedestrians. Shadley Associates’ scope in this Design-Build project includes the design of gateway elements, restoring and enhancing the ecosystem along the Taunton River with vegetative buffers and planting to filter and cool storm water run-off, streetscape landscaping and site amenities, and planting at stormwater basins. At the southern end of the site, a community space is created with dedication plaques, artist display spaces, wayfinding signage, benches, and bicycle parking. The northern end of the site includes two large passive recreation areas and gateway signage walls constructed of salvaged granite. The design team submitted 100% Construction Documents to MassDOT in the fall 2023 and construction of this $135 million project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2026.
