South Boston Beaches
The three miles of the South Boston Beaches project were rehabilitated as part of the Back to the Beaches legislation that provided $30 million for urban beaches. Included in the $7 million of improvements at South Boston were resanded beaches, new boardwalks and handicapped accessible beach entrances, new site walls, beach and upland planting, lighting, signage, new parking areas and multi-use trails, and two rehabilitated historic pavilions, one with a rehabilitated fishing pier. Shoreline protection was installed as were drinking fountains and foot showers.
Pam Shadley led this work while Principal with another firm. The project received an Honor Award from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects.
