Everett Riverfront Walkway Master Plan
Shadley Associates led a team of marine engineers and soil scientists in the development of a Vision Plan for the waterfront along the Mystic and Malden Rivers for the City of Everett, MA. The new Vision Plan for a continuous 1.5-mile shared-use path connecting Rivergreen Park near the Malden city line to Encore Boston Harbor at the Boston city line is complete. When implemented, the enhanced public riverfront will connect to major pedestrian and bicycle transportation networks which encourages multi-modal access both to Everett’s waterfront and to destinations beyond city limits. The design proposes amenities and destinations along the waterfront including a canoe/kayak launch with access to a new boat mooring field, an overlook pier, boardwalk across a wetland, boathouse and crew dock system, numerous gathering areas, plazas with seating, a shade shelter, site furnishings, and lighting.
Shadley Associates led the site evaluation phase identifying opportunities and constraints, environmental contamination issues, and possible shoreline access. The design team developed conceptual design work and met with numerous City staff, property owners, non-profit community groups, and the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation to develop the work. In 2021, the Shadley Team prepared the final concept plan, renderings, and design report while assisting the City in pursuing funding opportunities for final design and phased construction.
