Devir Park

Shadley Associates led a large multidisciplinary team of consultants on the renovation of Devir Park in Malden, MA.  The design process began in 2020 when Shadley Associates created a Master Plan for this 8.2-acre park and evolved it with the community through three public meetings.  Funding was approved for construction of Phase 1 in the summer of 2021.  The first phase of construction improved pedestrian circulation and safety with new accessible walkways, two main park entrances, and upgraded electrical infrastructure to bring improved lighting into the park.  In addition, the public’s recreation priorities were addressed with the construction of a large new playground and splash pad, basketball courts with LED sports lighting, and an entry plaza with benches, tables, bike racks, water bottle filler, and space for food trucks.  The removal of fencing along the new north/south walkway opens the large lawn area for a diversity of uses.  Extensive environmental remediation occurred onsite to remove over 500 tons of ash-laden soil.  Two new underground infiltration systems and new irrigation were installed as well as more than 75 new trees.  The $3.7 million Phase 1 improvements were completed in the fall of 2023.
