UNC - Charlotte

Shadley Associates provided full landscape architectural services to the University of North Carolina for the Charlotte Center City project. SA’s site design employs deliberate geometries which connect the building’s strong architectural planes with the landscape and to the surrounding urban grid. The project features sculptural walls and lawn terraces which are tented for events.  Varied seating provides a range of options for students and faculty. 

Most of the project is constructed on structure above a truck dock and parking facility. Sustainable features include the use of drought-tolerant plantings and an innovative water harvesting system which collects both roof water and foundation surcharge for the irrigation. The UNCC project was designed concurrently with the design and construction of the adjacent 4.6 acre First Ward Park, also by Shadley Associates.
