White Elephant Village

Shadley Associates provided site planning/approvals services and full landscape architecture and construction administration services to New England Development for their White Elephant Hotel Residences project, a 4.2 acre luxury residential condominium development on Nantucket Island.

The Residences were envisioned, scaled and detailed to act as an extension of the Island’s historic landmark architecture – reflecting the site’s location within the Historic District and meeting the approval of the Nantucket Historic District Commission (HDC). The result is a new village of authentic Shingle Style residential buildings with a pedestrian focus and detailed rich landscaping including brick walks, colorful plantings, and garden spaces designed with quintessential “Nantucket charm.” 

Along with the renovation of three historic buildings on site, 25 condominiums were completed in Phase One, which won a Design Award from the Boston Society of Architects and the American Institute of Architects New York Housing Design Awards Program.
